eCaring keeps people out of the hospital by generating essential real time health care data from the home. Our unique cloud-based system integrates significant behavioral, clinical and medication adherence data to manage and monitor seniors and people with chronic conditions. That information is filtered for care managers and providers, hospitals and health plans, generating actionable alerts that enable timely interventions which keep small problems in the home from leading to big ones in the hospital. A single platform manages all conditions, providing a unique new source of major health care data. The results are more efficient allocation of resources, improved information sharing, and reduced overall cost of care.

The Team Members

Robert M. Herzog

CEO and Founder

Robert is a pioneer in applying emerging technologies to unique business problems, and has worked extensively and successfully both as an entrepreneur and as senior executive with startup companies such as Motionbox, Diva, ON2 Corp, Softcom, Granite Films and City Winery, major corporations including JPMorgan Chase, Cahners Communications and the Sarnoff Research Center, and not-for-profits including New Jersey Appleseed and Ecotrust.

While working for the mayor of NYC, he was the creator and Director of New York City’s Energy Office. He has also taught public school and is an author and filmmaker. He graduated from Williams College and has a Master’s from the New School.

Robert’s interest and involvement in home-based healthcare emerged several years ago when he was deeply involved in the home and extended care of his mother Grace. The issues both she and he encountered ensuring that she received proper treatment gave him the initial understanding of the problems eCaring was subsequently designed to solve.

Pamela Hall

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer (COO), Pamela brings over 15 years management and operational experience driving success for industry leading organizations and building innovative brands.

Prior to joining, Pamela was Co-Founder and COO of United Preference, a leading health & wellness incentive administration & data analytics platform provider, directly partnered with Discover® Financial Services with clients that included some of the largest health plans in America. Prior to United Preference, Pamela served as COO of EGOEAST Inc., a leading New York-based business development and market strategy consulting firm, working with an exclusive list of clients in healthcare, financial services, and information technology (IT). In her operations role at EGOEAST, Pamela co-produced the 2011 Healthcare Payments & Policy Conference in Washington, DC. And in 2003, her team launched the first ever General Purpose Prepaid Card with hip hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons – the Prepaid Visa RushCard — and grew the business from $0 to over $2 billion in deposits in three years.

Pamela has expertise in creating operational efficiencies in healthcare, healthcare IT, Medicare, Medicaid, employee wellness, Consumer Driven Healthcare (CDH),financial services, healthcare and banking regulatory strategy, and IT infrastructure.

Stuart Hunt

Chief Technology Officer

Stuart has been on the cutting edge of digital development, having created some of the industry’s leading web presences, as well as award-winning DVDs. His specific areas of expertise include interactive media development, network management, and database design and administration, and he has worked for companies including Reuters Health; the NBA; ABC News; The Smithsonian (award winning CD- ROM); Sotheby’s Auction House; IBM; AT&T;; Pfizer; NYU’s Stern School of Business, the Internet Shopping Network; Scholastic; and numerous others.

Stuart graduated from Williams College, and has a Masters from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program.

George Kalkines

Strategic and Business Development

George has devoted his distinguished career to making health care systems work better. As one of New York’s leading health care attorneys, with his own firm and then with Manatt Phelps Phillips, George worked on legislation and programs to systemically address the needs and problems of health care institutions and service providers, including academic medical centers, acute and specialty care hospitals, nursing homes, faculty practice plans and ambulatory care organizations.

George was on the Mayor’s Task Force that helped create New York’s Health and Hospitals Corporation, where he served as the Corporation’s first general counsel. George is an avid photographer and intrepid traveler.

James Flynn

Board of Directors

Jim is General Partner of Deerfield Management, one of the largest dedicated healthcare investment organizations, with over $3 billion in assets invested in over 150 companies whose activities span the spectrum of healthcare-related activities.

Jim worked in biotechnology and pharmaceutical equity research at Kidder, Peabody & Co., and was Vice President of Corporate Development at Alpharma (a mid-sized pharmaceutical company with substantial U.S. and International operations), where he completed licensing transactions and managed the company’s strategic review and planning process involving manufacturing, product development, and sales and marketing. He was a Managing Director at Furman Selz covering pharmaceutical and medical device industries, had a proprietary trading account and was the firm’s top ranked analyst.

Since assuming full investment management responsibility at Deerfield in 2005, the firm has grown from 16 to over 45 employees and expanded its capabilities to invest across the capital structure. In 2007 Jim launched Deerfield’s Private Design Fund to provide alternative financing options to healthcare companies. Deerfield has provided over $500 million in capital commitments through uniquely developed structures. Jim has degrees in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Economics from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Avi Kometz, M.D.

Board of Directors

Avi is a Partner at Ascent Biomedical Ventures. Avi has more than 18 years experience in the healthcare industry, several of which have been focused in private and public investing.

Prior to joining Ascent Biomedical Ventures, Avi was the head of corporate development at a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on pediatrics. In this role Avi successfully closed several partnerships with large pharmaceutical companies, supported the head of marketing and sales with commercial analyses, and as part of the executive management team developed the business strategy. Prior to this, Avi spent several years in the Healthcare Practice at McKinsey & Company in New York. Avi worked for several multinational pharmaceutical companies on projects including developing a nutraceutical strategy, assessing technical, clinical and regulatory development risks for pharmaceutical products, augmenting pipeline product valuation methodologies, and organizational change and cost-cutting efforts.

Avi began his career as a clinician in South Africa and went on to found and build a group of clinics in South Africa. Avi received his medical doctorate from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, South Africa.

Josh Grotstein

Board of Directors

Josh is an early and growth stage technology company expert, having served in numerous roles across many aspects of the technology company value chain: from senior executive to entrepreneurial CEO and COO, to institutional investor and angel.

Currently, Josh runs a strategy consulting firm focusing on the development of early and growth stage technology companies with a particular emphasis on the eHealth, EdTech and FinTech sectors. Previously, he was CEO of Motionbox, an online personal video company, which was acquired by Hewlett Packard and had been co- founder and managing partner of SAS Investors, a $40M seed stage venture capital fund which invested in core technology companies emerging from top labs and academic research centers.

Prior to his recent life working with start-up’s, he excelled in senior executive roles at Citigroup (Division Executive in charge of global Internet Banking and eCommerce programs), NBC Digital (Founder and General Manager), Prodigy (SVP Content and Commerce), and CNBC (led business development and affiliate marketing). Josh gained significant marketing and business development experience at CNBC and J. Walter Thompson (where he worked on Warner-Lambert and Kodak Healthcare businesses, among others) and at McKinsey. In addition to eCaring, Josh has served on over a dozen Boards, including American Medical Television, a joint venture between the AMA and NBC; and he currently serves on the Boards of NYC Seed, an early-stage venture fund and the Utah-based education technology non-profit, Shift.. He is an active angel investor and he is an advisor to several early-stage media and technology companies. He is a graduate of Brown University (magna cum laude and phi beta kappa) and the Harvard Business School.

Stephen Jackson

Board of Directors

Stephen is a successful entrepreneur and corporate executive with extensive healthcare experience.

Currently he is an active investor and advisor focused on services and systems for the healthcare industry. His portfolio ranges from AlignCare, a B.I company to eCaring a care management system. In addition he is a board member of MJHS, an integrated Payer with revenues of $1.5 billion. In 1997 he founded Plan Data Management a software solutions company focused on the Medicare Advantage program. The company was the market leader; clients included Aetna, WellPoint, Cigna and numerous BC/BS Plans. In 2004 he expanded the company’s services to include Fraud Waste & Abuse and analytics in partnership with Johns Hopkins. In 2007 he sold the company to TriZetto. At TriZetto he held the position of President of Government programs and SVP with corporate responsibilities covering corporate strategy and M&A.

Prior to this Stephen founded and ran a successful marketing consulting practice in Los Angeles. The company was sold in 1997. Other experience includes career in advertising at CDP/Young & Rubican in London and Ogilvy in Los Angeles.

Dr. Holly Atkinson, M.D.

Advisory Board

Dr. Holly Atkinson is an award-winning medical journalist and a gifted and noted public speaker. With extensive experience as a medical correspondent – including assignments with NBC’s Today Show, CBS Morning News, Lifetime Medical Television, and the PBS health show Bodywatch – she has engaged national audiences on a wide range of medical topics for over 20 years. She is the author of the best-selling book Women and Fatigue.

Dr. Atkinson is assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine and co- director of the Advancing Idealism in Medicine Program at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, as well as adjunct professor of public health at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She is also medical editor-in-chief of, one of the top health sites on the web.

Dr. Atkinson devotes considerable time to a number of nonprofit organizations and charities. She is a past president of Physicians for Human Rights, an organization that shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for its effort to eradicate landmines. In 1995, Dr. Atkinson conducted a medical mission to Bosnia where she documented the health effects of landmines on civilians. In 2005, she traveled to Uganda on PHR’s behalf to help organize local physicians to address the HIV/AIDs epidemic.

She has also served on the board of Legal Momentum, the nation’s oldest and largest women’s civil rights organization.

Chris O’Brien

Advisory Board

Chris O’Brien has served as Everyday Health’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Medpage Today, since September 2013. From August 2012 to August 2013, Chris was Senior Vice President, Corporate Development.

From August 2010 to July 2012, Chris worked as a consultant at various Internet ventures and served as Venture Partner at K2 Labs and Entrepreneur’s Roundtable Accelerator, two early stage incubators in New York City. Prior to that, Chris founded and ran a number of venture-backed companies, most recently Motionbox, which was sold to Hewlett-Packard in July 2010.

Chris began his career as a software developer at Bell Communications Research (now Telcordia). Chris received an A.B degree in Mathematics and Philosophy from Brown University.

David Pachter

Advisory Board

David knows how to create, grow, and exit digital as well as bricks and mortar companies that meet the needs of consumers, advertisers, partners and investors alike.

Most recently, David has been the founder and CEO of NearSay, whose LocalVox merchant platform is one of the leading ways for merchants to connect with customers. LocalVox and its network of consumer sites has over 200,000 unique visitors a month in the New York Market alone in under a year. Previously, as the President and COO of, he guided the expansion of the company, developed its management team and brought it to profitability.

David was Senior VP of Business Development and Operations at Softcom/IVT, a leading provider of streaming video applications, where he managed the expansion of marketing, sales and operations from 15 people to over 200, and developed major alliances with business, strategic, and financial partners. David graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in International Relations.

Mark Mannino

Advisory Board

Mark is an experienced digital marketing and advertising executive with insights gleaned from having worked on all links of the advertising value chain.

Currently, he is a senior executive at Amazon, overseeing a good deal of their data- driven advertising platform. Prior to Amazon, Mark led sales in the East and MidWest as well as business development related to suppliers of media and targeting data for MediaMath, the leading digital media buying platform for advertisers and agencies. Prior to MediaMath, Mark was VP of Operations at Motionbox where he built a sophisticated marketing analytics infrastructure based on Omniture and led customer acquisition. He was an executive with WhenU, an ad network, and a consultant with Bain & Company.

Mark is a graduate of Villanova University and holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey with his wife, daughter and son. Mark thinks tomatoes with salt is sublime.

Dr. David Bernard, M.D., FACP

Advisory Board

Dr. Bernard is a board-certified nephrologist, is currently the EVP and Chief Medical Officer at the CHEAR Center, a clinical trials company, and an Honorary Attending Physician at Mt. Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. Prior to this, until January 2014, he was a Senior Vice President and the Chief Quality Officer of Continuum Health Partners, which in 2013 merged with the Mount Sinai Health System in New York, and an SVP and Chief Medical Officer at Beth Israel Medical Center, now known as the Mt. Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. In this capacity, Dr. Bernard led all of Continuum’s and BI’s Quality Improvement initiatives and was responsible for managing all physician and patient issues at the medical center.

He was also a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Over his almost 50 year career, Dr. Bernard has held numerous clinical, executive and academic positions. From 1975 to 1995, he was on the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine where he rose to the rank of Professor of Medicine and held the positions of Associate Dean and Vice President for Clinical Affairs at Boston University Medical Center.

In 1995, he joined the program in Quality Management at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and a Senior Medical Director in the PENN Health System, Dr. Bernard built the largest provider-based disease management program in the country. From 1999 to 2002, Dr Bernard was the EVP and Chief Medical Officer of DoctorQuality, an internet-based health care company that he co-founded. In 2002 he joined the Montefiore Medical Center as Chief Medical Director of the Care Management Organization and in 2006 moved to BIMC.

David Patterson

David leads eCaring’s business development and related sales efforts, while establishing strategies for growth in the post-acute and chronic care spaces He brings over 30 years of healthcare market knowledge across the continuum of care, resulting in excellent relationships within industry leading payers, healthcare providers, and suppliers of healthcare products and information technologies in the US, Europe, and China. David previously worked with an investment firm to support a turnaround of a post-surgical pain control product company, where he reduced costs, signed a major distribution agreement with a German global healthcare company that generated a 10X increase in revenue in 24 months, and managed the sale of the company. Prior to that David led the start-up of two new companies inside a global technology company, Philips Healthcare. Prior to Philips, David started and managed the largest Health Plan for CIGNA in Chicago. David’s activities have led to numerous relationships with investment banking, venture capital and private equity firms in the US and Europe.

Eric Patterson

Eric graduated from Belmont University in 2017 with a BS in Economics. In college he worked in support of multiple healthcare technology companies doing qualitative and quantitative research to support sales and marketing teams and emerging companies acquiring capital. While at Belmont, Eric was a member of the soccer team and on the leadership team for Belmont Enactus, a nationally competitive social enterprise team that engaged with multiple Nashville community non-profits to help them better accomplish their missions of serving marginalized communities. Currently, Eric coaches soccer, has his own podcast and loves learning and reading about a broad variety of topics including politics, history, religion, and science.

Marlon Levinton

Marlon began his journey in the healthcare sphere at the age of 16 when he got his first job at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Since then he has worked closely with professionals throughout the spectrum of medical and health related fields and is thus well prepared for overseeing client implementations and providing ongoing support. He formerly helped spearhead the Brooklyn Healthcare Improvement Project which increased access to healthcare in underserved areas of Northern and Central Brooklyn, providing Marlon the opportunity to survey doctors, nurses, and pharmacists from a variety of backgrounds. Consequently, he’s become highly attuned to their needs. Marlon is a Political Science graduate from Brooklyn College, where he focused his studies on the social impacts of health policy in the United States and abroad, learning about the nuances and needs of patients and providers from a variety of lenses including operational, financial, and legislative. He received Department Honors for his work in exploring the discrepancies in access to quality healthcare in the United States, and graduated in the top 5% of his class. As a supervisor for New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation Marlon managed a team of over 100 employees, and oversaw a variety of major projects, including the highly publicized restructuring of Coney Island’s iconic landmark Boardwalk, and Calvert Vaux Park and greenspace.
